WEBSTER CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT Brian Freeman, Assistant Superintendent for Business 119 South Avenue, Webster, NY 14580 (585)216-0017 brian_freeman@webstercsd.org
Brian Neenan, Superintendent of Schools From: Brian Freeman, Assistant Superintendent for Business Date: August 31, 2024 Cc: Board of Education RE: BOCES Expenditures - Amendment to the 23-24 Budget In January of 2024, the district was set to renew its annual technology lease program through our partners at Monroe 1 BOCES. After both the Webster and Monroe 1 BOCES Boards of Education approved the lease, the leasing bank changed the conditions of the financing. The financial institution was no longer approving the “soft” costs associated with equipment installation and software. On renewal for the district at this point was our cybersecurity package that was previously approved as well. A good analogy would be that the bank will pay for the flour, sugar, and eggs to make a cake, but not the baker to put it together. During the district’s audit, the auditing partners at Mengel, Metzger, and Barr recommended that to close the fiscal year, the district should amend the budget for the amount that was an unexpected expense. To accomplish this, a resolution is needed to amend the 2023-24 budget. The following is a suggested resolution: Based on the recommendation of the superintendent, the Board of Education amends the 2023-24 budget in the amount of $1,302,703 to fund additional unanticipated ordinary contingent expenditures within the meaning of Education Law, from budget appropriation code 01-2630-490-000 relating to changes to the BOCES billing for certain technology items. The funding will come from unassigned fund balance as of June 30, 2024.
