LONG-TERM EMS OPTIONS Town-run ambulance service Committee recommendation Based on the following: Estimated costs to start a Town-run ambulance department with FTE EMTs and Paramedics, leased or owned ambulances, and a leased or owned base vs. the projected revenue (see page 2). The volatility of the EMS industry and unknowns as to where the industry will go in the next 5-10 years (mandated consolidation, etc.). Lack of economies of scale that existing private companies, like Monroe Ambulance and Penfield Volunteer Ambulance, have. Controversiality of the government running a business. The committee recommends against the Town pursuing a Town-run ambulance service.
