The meeting was open to the floor for public comment and the following Webster residents

appeared before the Town Board.

Christopher Nacca, Webster resident, came before the Board to express concerns about recent

commercial developments, particularly the proliferation of fast-food establishments. Mr. Nacca

voiced concern over the use of valuable property for businesses that primarily offer low-wage

jobs. He pointed out that workers at these establishments, often earning $16.50 per hour, are

burdened with late-night shifts and economic insecurity, while the cost of living - including rent

and utilities, continues to rise. Mr. Nacca questioned whether these developments truly serve the

long-term interests of the community.

In response, Deputy Supervisor Cataldi clarified that businesses like fast food restaurants must

follow zoning regulations and appear before planning boards, though the current zoning codes

allow for such developments. The Board emphasized that no financial benefit is received

personally by Board members and that a new Comprehensive Plan is under review to better

evaluate future development. Mr. Nacca and Councilman Cahill briefly discussed the challenge

of rising housing costs and the disappearance of trade education in schools, lamenting the

societal push toward college while neglecting skilled labor opportunities.

Mr. Nacca concluded by reflecting on the economic hardship faced by young and working-class

residents, especially those in trade or service jobs with limited benefits. He noted the

disproportionate responsibility placed on young workers at fast food restaurants to meet the

community’s needs. The conversation ended on a hopeful note, with Deputy Supervisor Cataldi

mentioning new opportunities from fairlife, which promises higher wages and better employment

prospects, possibly offering a more sustainable economic future for Webster residents.

Dave Malecki, West Webster resident, came before the Board and stated the following:

BRIDGE IT 24/7/365. He first heard, “BRIDGE IT” in response to the events forty years ago,

when the Lake Road bridge over Irondequoit Creek was suddenly destroyed. Mr. Malecki

stated, “why doesn’t the Webster Town Board improve the link to Irondequoit? The Town

Board seems to be ignoring the public regarding the IBOB”.
