Brian Neenan, Superintendent From: Brian Freeman, Assistant Superintendent for Business Re: 2024-25 Bus Purchase Cc: Board of Education Date: 1/30/2024 Below you will find the resolution prepared by district bond counsel, William J. Marquardt of Trespasz & Marquardt, LLP for the purchase of school buses for next fiscal year. The district will recommend purchasing the following: five (5) IC Type C, 64 Pupil Conventional Front-Engine Buses with a 66 capacity and two (2) MicroBird G5 Ford Style 30 Passenger with wheelchair accessibility. The total purchase price for these buses will be $1,200,000. I wanted to highlight for you two changes for the 2024-25 proposition. The overall proposition is less than last year by $400,000 ($1,600,000). The lesser amount is based on the following changes. First, we are recommending purchasing five (5) fewer 66 passenger buses than in a normal cycle in an effort to right size the fleet based on last year's transportation audit recommendation as well as the reduced number of available drivers. Secondly, we are recommending 2 mini buses with wheelchair capacity. Last year it was not possible to source a minibus (30 passenger) with wheelchair capacity that we would normally purchase on a yearly basis. However, the price has increased substantially for these mini buses and are at the same price point a full size bus was selling for just a few years ago. Despite purchasing fewer buses, the cost increases to both models have reduced the overall savings of the proposition. All the bus purchases will be eligible for Transportation Aid through the state. The state aid is spread over the five year payment cycle and will have a decrease on our debt service for 2025-26, which is the first year a payment will be due for this purchase. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
